Eagle community, we have a jam packed week coming at you with lots of things happening. Boys soccer won the district championship against Lake Howell High School this past Thursday night in a nail biting 4-3 penalty kick win after a tie finish and a non scoring overtime. We are starting spring sports schedules with boys and girls lacrosse landing on the calendar while basketball and soccer finish out their respective seasons.
Our tenth grade course registrations continue through English classes this week. We will take time to honor and celebrate our team of school counselors for a week of appreciation for the work that they do and the support they provide to our students, parents and faculty. On Thursday, February 10th, I will be announcing our top ten seniors to the students, faculty and staff. Once the names are made public, those parents and students will be contacted with details on a special celebration we will hold the following week to honor these dedicated students.
Saturday, February 12th is the next ACT. If your student is signed up for this, please ensure that they arrive with a good night of sleep and protein in their stomach so that they can give their very best effort. Ms. Gray can answer any questions about that if you have them. If you are still considering a magnet opportunity for future Eagles, remember that the magnet application window closes on February 15th.
Attendance and grades are the two most important aspects of school. If your child has been absent, please do know that it is imperative that they return to school with full commitment to daily attendance. Nothing replaces the instructor in the classroom! I sent out a connect orange message on Saturday to the parents of all students who have a current D or F in their grade book. This will continue so that there are no surprises. Parents I encourage you to check in at least once a week with your students to monitor their progress. If you are unable to access Skyward, please reach out to our student services department and they will assist. In the meantime, ask your student(s) to log in to their Skyward account (not Canvas) and show you their grade book screen. On Thursday, 2/10, Progress Reports for term 3 will be posted to Skyward for an official midterm snapshot. Keep in mind that grades may be different in the live grade book as additional assignments and assessments have been submitted and graded.
As our students sometimes struggle to solve disagreements through the hard work of reflection, restraint and conversation I am reminded that “Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” ~ Coretta Scott King, wife of the reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
