Evan Cope, who began his law practice in 2001, has extensive experience successfully litigating a wide variety of cases, from business and contract disputes, eminent domain and condemnation cases, to complex multi-day divorce and child custody cases and employment discrimination, personal injury and general damages cases. He also serves as general counsel for the Murfreesboro Housing Authority, Community Care of Rutherford County, Inc., and the City of La Vergne, Tennessee. Evan represents clients in both state and federal trial courts and appellate courts, and before government boards and commissions.
In addition to his law practice, Evan serves as chair of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC), a position to which he was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam. THEC is Tennessee’s higher education policy coordinating agency. Evan also serves on the board of trustees of the Webb School, Bell Buckle. Founded in 1870, Webb is one of Tennessee’s oldest independent secondary schools.
Evan is a member of the Greenhouse Ministries board of directors. Greenhouse Ministries is a Murfreesboro non-profit organization that serves those struggling from poverty and related conditions by meeting their physical, educational and relational needs.
Evan is a graduate of the Webb School, Bell Buckle. In 1998, he graduated from Rhodes College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in history. In the summer of 1996, he studied British history and political science at St. John’s College, Oxford, through the British Studies at Oxford program. Evan graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law in 2001 where he received the dean’s award for academic excellence in trial advocacy and served on the moot court board.
